Regulation, community, and connection are foundational to supporting the mental health and well-being of all students, but are critical for those students with complex needs including those with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). This seven-module, on-demand course will explore how neurodevelopmental differences can impact learning, behaviour, and emotional regulation, and how educators can respond with effective, compassionate supports.
Using a strengths-based, tiered framework, participants will be introduced to evidence-informed universal and targeted strategies tailored to the meeting the unique needs of students with FASD. These strategies will be presented within a strengths-based model of support that recognizes mental health and it's implications for learning. By reducing stigma, inviting dialog, and promoting compassion, this course seeks to change the hearts and minds of educators with a goal towards fostering supportive, inclusive school communities.
